He was the baby of the family, the class clown, and the one who would have been voted Least Likely to Succeed if they had such a distinction 50 years ago. After graduating at the bottom of his high school class, he cleaned bathrooms for a living. At times, only his mother believed in him.

Today, Kevin Leman is an internationally known psychologist, humorist, and New York Times bestselling author of Have a New Kid by Friday. He’s written more than 40 books and taught and entertained audiences worldwide with his wit and commonsense psychology. A popular guest on hundreds of radio and television programs including FOX and Friends, The View, TODAY, Oprah, The 700 Club, and CNN’s American Morning, Leman has also served as contributing family psychologist to Good Morning America.

Leman visited Columbia recently as a guest of WMHK and Northside Baptist Church to present a two-day family conference. He shared principles from his latest book, promising that if his audience applied his blend of wisdom, science, and psychology, they could transform their family lives.

“If you want a State of the Union Family Address,” he said soberly, “it’s not good. There’s a lot of room for improvement.” Marriages aren’t doing well either, he noted. Marriage and parenting, he says, are inextricably linked. “The solid basis for good parenting is parents who have a good marriage.”
