“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

The Oliver Gospel Mission’s statement seems to say it all: “…to see that the broken and homeless are sheltered, given the gospel of Jesus Christ, and equipped to live responsibly.” It was in 1888, that Reverend Robert C. Oliver purchased the lot at the corner of Assembly and Taylor Streets in downtown Columbia, where the Oliver Gospel Mission is still located after 120 years. It is the sixth oldest homeless shelter in the United States, and the oldest in South Carolina.
