October 2015 - Editor's Letter

Hope is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops — at all . . .
~Emily Dickinson

Have you ever been in a situation so broken you can’t even imagine a happy ending?

Have you begun to pray, and instead, thrown up your hands in frustration and said, “God, I don’t even know how to pray about this. All I know is, I need help!”

Have you been praying about a situation for so long with no results that you’ve grown heartsick, weary, and hopeless?

One of the joys of serving as the editor of Reach Out, Columbia magazine is interacting with great men and women of faith. As I work with them to craft articles that will minister to you, they minister to me, too.

Dick Lincoln, pastor of Shandon Baptist Church, agreed to write the Pastor’s Corner article this month. As we emailed back and forth about what subject he should write on, this is what I wrote:

Many Christians are disheartened, frightened, and confused about recent world events. Christian persecution, the Supreme Court decision, an increasingly hostile national environment toward men and women of faith, and a culture that seems to be devouring our children are events that make us wonder if we’re losing the battle.
