ome days the spiritual darkness in our world seems blacker than ever. Political unrest. Rising crime rates. Moral and societal decline. And the ever growing number of aborted babies. What kind of a society is it that kills its most vulnerable citizens?

My office is one building away from the Planned Parenthood clinic in Middleburg Office Park. Every workday I look out our breakroom window and see its sign. Planned parenthood? If they only knew how biblical their name is—and that every child is planned—even the surprise ones. Psalm 139:13 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

I sometimes see frightened young women crossing the parking lot and entering the clinic’s side door. I wonder how many of them are considering abortions. I pray for them—a lot.

If I crane my neck hard to the right I can see Mark Baumgartner and his Moment of Hope volunteers keeping their quiet vigil. On abortion days he sends out Facebook messages, “Please pray this morning. Mothers will be arriving between 8 and 11 AM for scheduled abortion appointments.” I pray for him and his silent warriors, and the women they encounter, as they winsomely challenge Planned Parenthood’s claim that abortion is the only way to handle an unplanned pregnancy.
