September 2016 - Cover Story

Grace Prichard considers it a good day when she’s cleaning bathrooms at midnight—all six and a half of them.

The owner/innkeeper of Whispering Willows Bed and Breakfast in Ridgeway, Grace isn’t your typical hostess. And Whispering Willows isn’t your typical bed and breakfast. The English Country home that sits on 23 acres of land off Peach Road is, as Grace often says, “God’s house that we get to live in and use for his purposes.”

Although Whispering Willows officially welcomed its first guests to its Fairfield County location in 2010, the Prichards’ unofficial B & B has been operational since shortly after their marriage in 1977.

Grace, a young bride from North Carolina, and Bob, an Air Force brat attending Columbia Bible College, invited their first guests into their cozy little home on a whim one Sunday after church. They shared a simple meal and a homemade peach pie with visiting missionaries. After the missionaries left, fed and encouraged, Bob and Grace realized they had just walked through a new door of ministry through hospitality.

For the next 20 years they opened their door to more missionaries, students, church members, neighbors, and relatives. Anyone who needed a meal or a place to sleep were welcomed at Grace and Bob’s.
